Profile photo tips & tricks

The individual leavers profiles usually make up a big chunk of the yearbook and it's the one place you can be sure to include a photo of everyone in the year group. We've seen all sorts of types and styles of yearbook profile photos submitted over the years, below are some of the popular options that are available to you...

  • Accept our free photography offer - if you are within 25 miles of our office (or one of our photographer partners) we offer to take your profile photos for you free of charge! Fine more information on our 'Free Photography' page.

  • Take your own - taking your own photos can be great fun, allow maximum creativity and flexibility and doesn't need to be a huge challenge. We'll cover this option in more detail in another blog post!

  • Ask everyone to submit their own - giving everyone the freedom to submit their own photos can really add some individuality to the yearbook and allows people to reflect their personality. How appropriate this is can depend on the design theme that you opt for as loads of different photos can look a little messy in a formal design, however it can really add 'something' to a less formal design! If you opt for this option you should definitely get started as soon as possible, set a realistic but strict deadline and issue regular reminders. Keep a track of who is yet to submit a photo and chase up those who haven't personally. Be prepared for a bit more work than with other options.

  • Use the school photos - most schools arrange individual photos to be taken in years 11 and 13, they aren't always the greatest quality, aren't necessarily going to be wonderful photos, are usually quite formal and can be difficult to get hold of. That said using them is a quick and easy option once you've tracked them down. Be sure that you get permission to use them off the photography company though as they will be copyright protected, most companies will gladly let you use their images in the yearbook but one or two will ask for a licence fee to be paid (either by the school or by us) - talk to us about this if you are unsure, we'll be happy to help and advise!
