Inappropriate content - a warning

This advice is aimed at individuals submitting their content to the committee.

The yearbook is a great opportunity for students to have some fun, however, as it is affiliated with your school there are some boundaries.

Be warned - inappropriate content is unlikely to make it into your yearbook and so submitting it is usually a waste of time, and can result in your entry being deleted or edited by staff. Here are some tips to make sure your content makes it:

Many schools will scan the yearbook content and remove any unsuitable language so it is worth remembering not to include this is the first place.

Offensive language - swearing, racist, sexist, homophobic or other discriminatory will almost certainly be removed.

Criticising others - putting someone down (other students or members of staff) is unlikely to be tolerated.

Sex, drugs and rock and roll - talking about activities which are not allowed in school such as drinking and smoking, whether you can legally do so or not, will be removed by most schools.

Photos - making obscene gestures, holding cigarettes or alcohol or photos taken in dangerous circumstances are a few examples of things that will almost certainly see your images rejected by the school.

Our top tip is to ask yourself the following two questions when creating your content...

'Would I be happy for my parents to see this?'

'Would I be happy to show this to my children when they are my age?'
